There is a new piece of malicious software, known as Cryptolocker, that is currently infecting a wide variety of machines across the internet. This infection is particularly dangerous because it encrypts files on your computer, making them inaccessible, and then demands payment to decrypt the files so that they can be used again.
The primary way this infection has been distributed is via email attachments. The most common scenario has been for the email to appear to be a customer support related issue from FedEx, UPS, DHL, or some other delivery service vendor. The attachment appears to be a PDF, but opening the attachment will result in your computer becoming infected with the Cryptolocker malware.
